Short-term and permanent housing opportunities for our community
Each year, approximately 2,000 of our neighbors across Northern Cook County will experience homelessness. We operate a range of housing programs to help people move from homelessness to housing as quickly as possible.
As a member of the Alliance to End Homelessness in Suburban Cook County, we work in partnership with nonprofit agencies across suburban Cook County to serve individuals at risk of and currently experiencing homelessness. The lack of affordable homes, coupled with decreased earnings, job loss, and unexpected medical expenses has put thousands more people precariously on the line between homelessness and housing.
We’re here to help.
Housing Services
-
Short-term Housing
Our short-term housing programs provide individuals and families with temporary housing support and case management focused on increasing skills and income so that each household can maintain its housing after exiting the program.
-
Permanent Housing
Our permanent housing program serves individuals and families that have experienced long-term homelessness and also have a disability. The program is an ongoing rental subsidy plus intensive supportive services focused on housing and financial stability, health and wellness, and children and family wellness.
-
Youth Housing
We support the economic and housing security of youth aged 18-26 through our youth housing programs. We provide transitional living and independent apartments in the community, along with robust case management to help youth participants develop the skills and confidence they need to live and thrive.

Stories of Success: Carlos
When Carlos’ mother passed away, he also lost his family home, and he became homeless. Carlos visited our drop-in center to access the food pantry and clothing room before going to his job as a crossing guard. When COVID-19 hit, he lost his job and moved into Connections’ emergency shelter at the Margarita Inn. Connections partnered with Carlos to secure a permanent home in downtown Evanston through our Rapid Rehousing program. Carlos is happy to have restarted his job as a crossing guard and continues to stay involved with the Connections community.
