Shelter is coming back to Hilda’s Place!

In late Spring 2027, the basement of Lake Street Church (where Hilda's Place is right now) will be re-opened as a brand new, 30-bed overnight shelter open year-round to people of all genders.

We haven’t had emergency shelter since we had to shut down during the pandemic, but the need never disappeared. We’re thrilled to be able to bring back this essential service in a fully renovated space.

Starting August 10th, Hilda's Place drop-in services will move to the 1st and 2nd floors of Lake Street Church

Here’s what you need to know:

Construction begins in August 2026 and finishes in Spring 2027. We will continue to hold regular drop-in hours with limited services on the first floor of Lake Street Church. You can access drop-in by entering through the courtyard doors of the church. After construction we’ll have new showers, laundry, a working elevator, and a brand-new overnight shelter.

Drop-In Services:

Case management services and the Food Pantry will remain the same.

Lockers will move to St. Mark's (1509 Ridge Ave) and be available 7-11am or by appointment.

Showers and laundry will not be available.

  • Robert Crown Community Center (1801 Main Street)  

  • Levy Senior Center (300 Dodge Ave) 

  • Fleetwood-Jourdain Center (1655 Foster Street) 

  • Chandler-Newberger Community Center (1028 Central Street) 

Volunteering:

Enter via the courtyard at 1450 Chicago Ave. Staff will greet you at the doors.

All volunteer roles are still needed (same time, same building, just one floor up).

Staff will orient you to the new space at your next shift.

In-Kind Donations:

To drop off donations, pull over on Chicago Ave (going south) and leave hazards on.

All donations will now come through the courtyard entrance, including bagged lunches, bags of clothing, etc.

The outdoor donation bin is still located off the alley, but will be relocated closer to Chicago Ave in the coming weeks. We will post an update once it is moved.
