For nearly 40 years, Connections for the Homeless has served and catalyzed our community to end homelessness, one person at a time. Each year, we provide eviction prevention, shelter, and housing services to roughly 5,000 people from across northern suburban Cook County. Beyond providing direct services, we also operate a robust advocacy and community organizing program to address the root causes of homelessness.

As a benefit-eligible employee, you’ll have access to the following:
Medical Insurance
We offer three medical plan options through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois to give you flexibility in how you manage your healthcare. Choose from an HMO or two PPO plans, depending on your personal preferences and financial needs. To support equity and affordability, employee premium contributions for medical coverage are based on a salary-tiered structure—ensuring those who earn less pay less.
Dental Insurance
Select from two dental plan options provided through Sun Life. Both plans cover preventive care at 100%, with varying levels of coverage for basic and major services, so you can choose the plan that fits your needs and budget.
Vision Insurance
Keep your vision sharp with our vision plan through Blue Cross Blue Shield and EyeMed. This plan includes annual eye exams, coverage for lenses or contacts, and a frame allowance every two years.
Health Reimbursement Account (HRA)
Employees enrolled in one of our PPO medical plans are automatically enrolled in a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) funded by Connections. These funds help cover eligible medical expenses, reducing your out-of-pocket costs.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
Use pre-tax dollars to pay for healthcare, dependent care, and commuting expenses through our FSA offerings. Options include healthcare, dependent care, and transit/parking accounts.
Life and AD&D Insurance
Connections provides fully paid life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance coverage, equal to one year of your salary up to a maximum of $140,000.
Disability Insurance
We fully cover both short-term and long-term disability insurance to protect your income if you're unable to work due to a qualifying illness or injury.
Additional Voluntary Insurance Options
To further enhance your financial security, you can elect voluntary coverage including accident insurance, critical illness insurance, and hospital indemnity insurance.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Our EAP offers confidential, around-the-clock support for mental health, family, legal, and financial matters. The program includes up to 8 free sessions with a licensed counselor per issue, per year—and is available to anyone in your household.
Paid Time Off (PTO) and Holidays
We support work-life balance with generous time off, including 11 paid holidays and one floating holiday. PTO accruals range from 21 to 29 days per year, depending on your length of service.

403(b) Retirement Savings Plan
All employees can participate in our 403(b) retirement plan upon hire. After meeting eligibility requirements, employees become eligible for an employer contribution to support long-term financial planning.
