Loren’s Story
Loren is a Northwestern graduate who spent a decade living with and caring for his mother since her stroke in 2013. They were living in a condo, but she was embroiled in a dispute with her condo association. When Loren’s mother died on Juneteenth in 2023, the condo association was unsympathetic to his situation, and he lost his housing. Loren had been unhoused since January 2024, midway through his treatment for metastatic prostate cancer.
He was avoiding going into dormitory-style shelter because of the heath risks involved. When he came to Connections, Loren was struggling to manage his cancer while living on the streets. Dr. Boyd and the rest of the Health and Wellness Services Program team helped get Loren back into cancer treatment.
Today, Loren is finished with chemo, which was even more successful than his doctors anticipated. He credits Connections for helping him get through his cancer treatment. Now, he is working towards finding a permanent housing solution so he can continue to focus on his health.
You can hear Loren, along with other participants, tell his story in his own words here. Stories like Loren’s are only possible because of supporters like you! Please consider making a gift so we can continue to provide shelter for folks like Loren.
