Volunteer

PLEASE NOTE: WE HAVE MADE TEMPORARY MODIFICATIONS TO OUR VOLUNTEER SHIFTS IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19/CORONAVIRUS. PLEASE CONTACT OUR VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR FOR MORE INFORMATION.

With the support of our community, we provide all the things our participants need to remain stable.
In partnership with more than 1,300 annual volunteers and 1,700 donors, we provide our participants with the tools and resources that help them move forward with dignity and confidence.

MAKE BAG LUNCHES

Whether a participant is coming to take a shower, pick up mail, or meet with a case manager about housing opportunities, having their basic needs of food and water met always make the conversations go better. Sign up to prepare bag lunches to one of our locations.

COOK A MEAL AT OUR SHELTER

365 days a year, volunteers cook and serve breakfast and dinner for the residents at our shelter. Whether it is your family or a group of friends or co-workers, you will have a memorable dining experience with our shelter residents.

Volunteers are responsible for purchasing, preparing, and serving a meal for approximately 20 people (in addition to the volunteers in your group). Most importantly, we ask that you sit down and join our residents for the meal.

Please note, there have been modifications to our meal program due to COVID-19. Please email info@connect2home.org with questions and for instructions.

Sign up to cook a meal.

ASSEMBLE OUTREACH KITS (View our assembly instructions.)

Not everyone who is facing homelessness feels safe asking for help. Not everyone who is facing homelessness can stay in our shelter or qualify for one of our housing programs. We offer outreach to people experiencing street homelessness to offer some of the basics needed to survive outside. The outreach kits you make help us start building trust and then hopefully a connection to more services. Sign up to assemble outreach kits.

PARTICIPATE IN A SERVICE DAY

Join us at our shelter to help sort and organize donations in our clothing room and food pantry, as well as help with light cleaning work. Other special projects will also be assigned as needed.

We host Service Days every Wednesday afternoon from 2:00pm - 4:00pm, and also the Second Saturday of each month from 10:00am-12:30pm. Service Days are held at Hilda's Place (1458 Chicago Ave, Evanston). Sign up for an upcoming Service Day.

PROVIDE LONG-TERM ADMINISTRATIVE + PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT
Volunteers play a critical role in Connections' day-to-day operations. From helping at our reception desk to staffing our Drop In program to assisting on our healthcare team, we are sure to have an area of need to match your experience and interest. If you are interested in volunteering on a weekly or long-term basis, please contact Hail Khalaf at hkhalaf@connect2home.org or 847.475.7070 x217.

ADVOCATE FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Join us in advocating to increase affordable housing in communities throughout the North Shore. In addition, we're raising awareness of issues contributing to homelessness, such as income inequality. Learn more about our advocacy efforts.
