At Connections, mental health matters.

Five years ago, Monica moved from Alabama full of hope that a new relationship in a new home would be the start of a brighter future. Instead of a new beginning, she soon found herself fleeing domestic violence. The fear and uncertainty pushed her mental health to the breaking point.

Unfortunately, Monica’s story is all too common. People experiencing homelessness are three times more likely to suffer from depression than the general population.

Ernie, Behavioral Health Specialist at Connections

That’s why Connections for the Homeless has two full-time behavioral health specialists providing crisis counseling, one-on-one therapy, medication management, group therapy, and links to other community mental health resources to help people get back on their feet.

Monica knew she needed help and contacted us. Behavioral health specialist Ernie Calderon was there to help her take her first steps toward stability. She’s now working at a job she loves and renewing the lease for her current apartment.

“If I had to do this all over again, Connections would still be my go-to,” said Monica. “The staff at the Margarita Inn saved my life.”

Please consider making a gift so we can continue to provide the type of counseling, support, and encouragement that gave Monica the strength to build a new life.
