THRIVE, Connections’ annual gala, is the organization’s oldest and largest event, annually raising nearly $300,000 in support of helping individuals and families move into housing and toward self-sufficiency.
The event, held at Architectural Artifacts in Chicago, broke the traditional “gala mold” when it unveiled a new format in 2017. Instead of a sit-down dinner, 11 Evanston and Chicago-area restaurants set up tasting stations featuring one of their signature dishes. 2017 restaurants included Boltwood, Found, Intro, La Principal, Libertad, Peckish Pig, Ten Mile House, Union Squared, and Wow Bao.
For dessert, guests participate in a competitive “Sugar Rush,” where guests bid collectively with their tablemates for the right to choose their desserts first from selections donated by local bakeries.
