Raised in a rural community outside of Chicago, Lindsay was homeschooled until conditions at home deteriorated. She first found help at a domestic violence shelter and then another shelter for young women before moving into Connections’ Our House program in 2022.
Our House is one of Connections’ suite of programs designed for young adults aged 18 to 24 who are experiencing homelessness. It provides specialized services for this vulnerable population, helping them find stability, plan for their futures, and receive the support they need to launch into adulthood. Not fully ready to be on her own and still needing guidance, Lindsay was like many of the more than 70 emerging adults Connections serves via these special youth-focused shelter and housing programs. With Connections’ support, Lindsay graduated from Evanston Township High School, moved into her own apartment, and is starting classes at Oakton College in the fall. Lindsay says she’s excited to start college and ready to branch out. |
